The peach
walls speak to a long history of horticulture in Montreuil, where the walls
stored thermal inertia, providing a microclimate for species that normally
would not thrive in the area. This form of cultivation has a large impact on
the organization of land, leaving a typology of long and narrow plots around
contemporary Montreuil. Many of these long and narrow plots are used for
parking by the residents of nearby residential buildings, and some of these
lots are comprised of warehouses. This project reimagines this lot typology as
a corridor that connects, providing opportunities for large urban blocks to be
better adjusted for pedestrian traffic and offering an alternate type of
corridor where engagement of activities outweighs the efficiency of traffic.
The site is organized as a series of voids that unveil themselves one by one.
The built volumes provide various civic and communal functions while
simultaneously acting as thresholds that guide the pedestrian traffic through
the corridor.
