Yao Xiao is a designer and photographer whose work is shaped by a blend of international influences. Born in Nanjing and raised in Virginia, Yao’s diverse background has fostered a broad cultural perspective that informs both his design approach and visual storytelling. Photography and architecture naturally complement each other in his practice, with photography offering a way to explore and interpret architectural spaces, while design enhances his understanding of form and light.
After completing a B.S. in Architecture at the University of Virginia, Yao is currently pursuing graduate studies at Rice School of Architecture. During his time at Rice, he has been recognized with the Morris R. Pitman Award in Architecture and the Buildner Student Award for his work on the Iceland Beer Spa competition.
